Hi, I’m Kati!
I spent more than a decade in journalism, writing stories for print, reporting on-air for TV news and managing a weekly publication. I then took time to be at home with my son and twin daughters. But having my son, who is high-functioning autistic, dyslexic and also has ADHD, inspired me to transition into Special Education and Dyslexia Intervention. I served as Special Education Department Chair at an HISD (Houston Independent School District) elementary school, where I oversaw the district’s largest elementary special education caseload while providing daily dyslexia intervention to students.
I also led hundreds of ARD (Admission, Review, Dismissal) Special Education meetings and helped parents navigate this complicated system while supporting students’ progress in academics.
But I most enjoyed helping students become successful readers! Working in special education and dyslexia intervention taught me compassion, patience and how to tailor lessons to each student. I also find my experience as a parent of a child who has had reading struggles invaluable when working with students.
I’d love to help your child feel joyful about reading!
